Nobody expects the dreaded LDR to work out. When i left for us for 3 years to further my studies, i can't say i didn't have faith in my replationship of four years, but i did have my doubts about being able to maintain our relationship. My boyfren was never the expressive or verbal sort, so i didn't expect us to communicate much while i was away. However, instaed of letting the distance get between us, i actually ogt to see a different side of him. While he never wrote me any letters or did anything you would consider "mushy" when i was in s'pore, he wrote me a letter every week while i was away. He made the effort to call every night before i went to sleep, even though it meant he had to wake up early in the morning in s'pore, due to the time difference. What touched me the most was when he saved up his army pay(at that time) to fly over to the us on my 21st birthday to surprise me, because he didn't want me to spend the day alone. The time and effort my guy put into the relationship while i was away made me realise how serious he was about us. We've been together for nearly seven years now. Not only did the distance not tear us apart; it actually brought us even closer together!
